Jones has revealed that the Egyptian forward said sorry to the group of players following the controversy from his televised remarks.

The Incident

Salah was left out from a European match following criticising the club and suggesting his relationship with manager had deteriorated.

“He speaks for himself and he can say his own stuff,” Jones told Sky Sports. “He said sorry to the group and was like: ‘If I’ve affected anybody, please accept my apology.’”

The manager has previously declined to reveal on whether he got an explanation from the veteran striker.

Looking Ahead

The player stated that the team's response was unchanged. “Nothing about him changed, he had a big smile on his face and we all treated him normally,” Jones added.

The midfielder also noted that a competitor wanting to play is less of an issue. “I get that there are specific approaches you can express yourself,” he said. “However, if a player is content to just be on the bench, then I think that’s concerning.”

Positive Results

Their results have been impressive in the games following the situation. Jones believes the forward's comments were not intended to cause disruption.

“If passion has boiled over, it has consistently come from a good place,” Jones concluded. “That chapter is closed and we’re uniting strongly, getting results and starting to win games.”
