Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

• Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
• She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
