This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
