The Black Phone Horror
Scott Derrickson's contained scarefest holds up well even without a follow-up. Taking place in the late 70s in Denver, several disappearances has left the youth frightened. This Dramatic Portrait
In the struggle between God and Mammon, the victory is clear for materialism in Showalter's wonderfully garish film adaptation regarding the shamed religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. The actor portrays the venal Jim, who proclaims early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple set about capitalizing on the people's spiritual convictions. It's a riot of bad interior design, excessive cosmetics and bad faith, yet Jessica Chastain achieves to depict the real-life figure in a likable light. Next Tuesday, late night, the Film4 channel
