Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown With Los Angeles Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Houston Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their first World Series following 1993 by beating the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.
Trailing 3-1, the star outfielder smashed a three-run homer in the seventh, leading the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a four games to three triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the upcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for our team, the city, the nation," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an incredible feeling."
Springer has now slugged 23 total October home runs, making him third all-time behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not anyone else anywhere that I'd choose in that moment other than George Springer with his playoff prowess," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, after leading the early in the series, remain the one club yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.
Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" following his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their performance throughout the year.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this one," he continued.
Toronto's team secured the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
